Freudenberg certified formulations: the key to today's market
More and more often we consumers stop to read the labels of packaged products, aware of the dangers that surround our health. When we buy a certain product in the store, we look at the labeling, the composition, whether or not it has a certain certification, etc.
Reviewing the basic information of a product in search of the certification logo transmits confidence, since it is telling us that this material or product has been manufactured according to a standard.

The importance of certification for the manufacturer
The fact that a material is certified for a certain use implies that the manufacturer has commissioned an external body to carry out a study that certifies the validity of its material for its intended use.
This certification body is independent and this means that it is not involved in the design, manufacture, supply, repair or maintenance of the item or material to be assessed and, therefore, no conflict of interest can be established.
When a manufacturer certifies materials, he assures us that they comply with market requirements, that they accept the relevant regulatory control, that their counterfeiting will be much more complex and, in short, that he is talking about quality and trust.
Freudenberg, multi-certified manufacturer
After understanding why it is so important to certify a certain product and how it can affect the final consumer's decision making, at Epidor Seals and Rubber Technology we would like to present two ranges of formulations from the manufacturer Freudenberg, which are multi-certified for the food, packaging, pharmaceutical, and drinking water distribution networks sectors, among others.
EPDM range with multi-certifications
All the products in our EPDM range shown below are Animal Derived Ingredients (ADI) free.
Below is a summary table of the most important members of the EPDM family, based on ethylene-propylene diene rubber:
| Formulation | Color | Working temperatures | Products | Certifications |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 60 EPDM 290 | Black | -40 ºC ... +150 ºC | Membranes | FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 EU 1935/2004 EU 2023/2006 BfR XXI - cat. 4 RoHS |
| 70 EPDM 291 | Black | -40 ºC ... +150 ºC | O-rings Aseptic seals Membranes Hygienic Usit® Sealing Gaskets Parts by molding and machining |

| 85 EPDM 292 | Black | -40 ºC ... +150 ºC | O-rings Other parts by molding and machining |
FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 EU 1935/2004 EU 2023/2006 BPA free CMR - cat. 1A/1B free USP Class VI (Ch.87-88) NSF 51 Nano-free RoHS |
The outstanding properties of the EPDM range are, among others, the following:
- Compatible with acids, bases, polar solvents (e.g. acetone) and CIP and SIP chemical cleaning fluids.
- Excellent performance with water and steam up to +180 ºC.
- Very good resistance to weathering, ozone and solar radiation.
- Excellent elasticity.
- Good electrical insulation.
However, EPDM has limitations in terms of temperature and fluids containing oils or greases, as they cause swelling (swelling) of the part of interest. In these circumstances, it is of particular interest to consider the following range of Freudenberg elastomers, Fluoroprene® XP.
Fluoroprene Range® XP with multi-certifications
The Fluoroprene® XP range is excellent for steam sterilization processes, CIP / SIP chemical cleaning fluids and fluids with a high concentration of glycerides (fats).
