Industrial seals

It is not easy to choose the right industrial seals most suitable for a given application.

There are so many variables that can influence the choice of the most suitable oil seals that it is not a simple task.

The great diversity of oil seals means that each one has its own peculiarities that make it unique.

It is necessary to take into account the variables that intervene in the working conditions such as seal speed, operating pressure, temperature, etc. and, of course, the aggressiveness of the working fluid.

We can also find other conditioning factors such as the degree of dirt surrounding the rotating machine, the dynamic eccentricity that could affect the seal or, for example, whether the seal must be split or whole for practical assembly and installation purposes.

Given the difficulty, we would like to share with you in this article, all our knowledge about the The special features of industrial seals and a tool to choose the one that best suits your needs.

Visual selector for industrial seals

From Epidor Seals and Rubber Technology, we have created a visual tool that serves as a selector of industrial seals.

This tool included in the new edition of the Retainers catalog (Page 42 and 43) will make your task easier, as it is very intuitive and is designed to rule out options according to the working conditions in which your equipment operates.

Thus, for example, if we know that the assembly of the new oil seal in our machine is particularly complex or may involve other equipment for its installation, then we should choose a split oil seal whose assembly is done “shaft out”, i.e. without the need to open the equipment.

Continuing with this example, from among the more than 100 industrial seals shown in the catalog, The visual seal selector reduces the selection to only 7 options (marked in red).

Visual seal selector

In this case, the selection will continue to take into consideration the speed parameters, lip material, the degree of contamination (dust lip) and even the maximum permissible dynamic eccentricity.

We collaborate with major manufacturers of sealing solutions.

This tool can lead us to sealing solutions from manufacturers that collaborate with us, such as Freudenberg, Garlock or Saint Gobain, among others.

The following are some of the solutions offered by these world-renowned manufacturers.

Industrial seals of Freudenberg

Freudenberg Industrial Seals

In the industrial seals proposed by our visual selector, we can find Freudenberg general service industrial seals of series BA, B1 and B2.

If contamination is low, these series are available with a dust lip. And for a high degree of contamination, among its solutions we can choose the Cassette type seals, Combi Seal or modular systems such as the MSS-7.

In addition, Freudenberg has split retainers such as the Merkel Radiamatic® R35, tandem oil seals Merkel Radiamatic case® R58 or seals in a back-to-back configuration such as the Merkel Radiamatic® R36.

Nor can we forget its range of seals for pressures up to 10 bar consisting of such well-known seals as the B2PT, BABSL or the most recent member PPS.
