Flat gaskets from Seals and Rubber Technology

The most common flanges and flat gaskets for industrial use

On this occasion, we would like to present an informative video that we have prepared to clarify some of the basic concepts about the different types of flat gaskets for flanges available in our catalog. This is a very illustrative material aimed primarily at industrial technicians and operators in the chemical sector; We also hope that it will be useful to all those who are interested in the subject and who, either because of their profession or training, want to review the different characteristics of the different types of flange gaskets available on the market.

Types of flat gaskets

In addition to the existence of different flange types and flat gaskets, In addition, we can also find different materials with which to manufacture them (graphite, expanded or restructured PTFE, elastomers, synthetic fibers, and more). The choice of one material or another will depend on the conditions in which the sealing solution will work. To ensure the service life and proper functioning of the machinery in question, it is very important that these materials are of high quality. Finally, let's review the concepts seen in the video about the types of standard flanges and their flat gaskets.

Type RF Flanges

Type RF flanges are one of the most common types of flanges. standard flanges. Its faces are highlighted and its gasket has no holes, which makes its assembly much easier: the gasket is installed between the bolts and is automatically centered. In addition, it does not protrude inside the pipe, thus avoiding cavitation and head loss.

Flanges Type SR

They have a simple male-female coupling. The assembly of this joint is also very simple. One of the two flanges has a raised face, while the opposite one has a housing in which the flat gasket is placed (the raised face fits on its outside diameter).

Type TG Flanges

This tongue and groove flange is very similar to the RT flange. What differentiates them is their coupling, which in the TG joint is produced by both the inside and outside diameter. Thus, the butt joint is fully protected to avoid possible leaks caused by the high pressure of the fluid in the pipeline.

Type FF Flanges

They are flat-faced flanges without any projections. The flat gasket has bores whose quantity and size will be determined by the pressure it needs to exert. In FF flanges, the gaskets are mounted between the flat faces and are penetrated by the bolts. For this reason we need the gasket to have the holes correctly positioned according to its original diameter and number of equidistant holes. If this fails, the assembly will not be correct or safe.

FF blind flanges

They work in exactly the same way as the FF cable ties seen above, except that this type of FF cable ties flat-faced flange serves as a cover. As far as the gasket is concerned, it will remain unchanged. At Epidor Seals and Rubber Technology we are experts in flat gasket manufacturing for flanges as well as for any application. We work with the best materials, all of them certified and, in addition to having a wide range of flat gaskets According to regulations, we offer a cut-to-size service with our own machine that allows us to customize our customers' solutions according to their drawings.
