Epidor SRT Gylon Engine Seals

Use of Gylon® seals in engines

In the design engineering phase of a facility, the largest number of scenarios in which the facility will have to operate are usually considered and the possible problems that may arise in each of them are analyzed.

The sealing of electric and hydraulic motors is not guaranteed at 100% when using conventional seals. It is an attractive solution in terms of cost and performance, but these types of seals have limitations in terms of the maximum speed and pressure they can withstand and sometimes make it necessary to replace the original sealing system.

What are Gylon® seals?

In this context, it is interesting to keep in mind the option of installing Gylon seals®, They are also used in machinery drive motors because of the additional protection they offer compared to conventional seals. The Gylon seals®, known as PS SEAL®, The seals are “lip seal” type seals capable of withstanding pressures up to 10 bar and, if the casing is suitably reinforced, the service pressure can be as high as 25 bar. The maximum allowable velocity is 45 m/s.

What are PS SEAL® seals?

The seals PS SEAL® are designed for process pumps, screw compressors, agitators and can also be used as an alternative sealing solution to the conventional seal fitted to an original motor that is causing problems.

The lip seals of  Gylon seals®  o PS SEAL® consist of an AISI 316 Ti stainless steel housing containing a very short and very flexible sealing lip. The lip is made of PTFE restructured with loads and low friction coefficient. The various loads improve the performance of the lip, depending on the working conditions. For example, if the lip is dry running, the blue lip of Gylon® Blue. On the other hand, under conditions of lubrication with either grease or oil, the black lip of the Gylon® Black offers better performance.

In order to offer you the most suitable solution for your needs, you can choose from various lip and pocket configurations. Thus, for example, there are PS SEAL® with a single lip that have an additional second dust lip. Other configurations have, in the same pocket, two tandem or “back-to-back” lips. The advantage of the tandem lip seal is that it extends the life of the motor as it is equivalent to two single lip seals in series.
