In order to sell the best product in sealing we need to test it. This is our idiosyncrasy. That's why at Epidor Seals and Rubber Technology we have our own pneumatic test bench. We tell you about it below.

What is a pneumatic test bench?

Epidor Seals and Rubber Technology has a test bench for hydraulic seals. shared with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), We have designed and built a new bench adapted to pneumatic seals. In this way, we can also verify performance and check wear on pneumatic parts, just as we do with seals for hydraulics.

The pneumatic test bench has been manufactured with components purchased from group companies. EPI Industries, to which we belong. 

Epidor Technical Distribution provided us with the components that make up the bench, such as cylinders and solenoid valves. For his part, Agatex designed the control electronics and proceeded to assemble the bench. And of course, the sealing gaskets are of our own manufacture.

Characteristics of the test bench

As previously mentioned, at Epidor Seals and Rubber Technology we have two test benches, one for pneumatic and one for hydraulic tests. 

To understand the importance of having both test spaces, we must talk about the types of cylinders where sealing gaskets are installed.

    • Pneumatic cylinders

They are linear actuators that use, as driving force, the pressure exerted by a compressed gas on the surface of an internal piston. This gas is usually dry air treated with a light dispersion of oil.

Since the operating pressure in pneumatics does not exceed 20 bar, the constructive design of a pneumatic cylinder does not require high mechanical strength and therefore they are made of aluminum alloys or even thermoplastic materials. 

Our test bench is equipped with 2 pneumatic cylinders and their solenoid valves for compressed air management. In order to optimize the installationhe design of the bench is with opposed cylinders which decreases energy consumption and contributes to meeting our sustainability goal.

    • Hydraulic cylinders

Linear actuators which use, as a driving force, the pressure exerted by a pressurized liquid on the surface of an internal piston. This liquid is usually an industrial oil.

The range of pressures in hydraulics is much higher. And if we think of cylinders for light hydraulics, their pressures vary between 160 bar and 250 bar. And for these working conditions, the cylinders must be made of a mechanically resistant material such as iron.

In this case, our bench has 4 hydraulic cylinders and a hydraulic power unit capable of achieving 250 bar of pressure.

Both hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders are installed in both hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders. sealing gaskets, a key element in the operation of the cylinder., They are responsible for preventing oil and air leaks, respectively. 

What do we test on a pneumatic test bench?

At Epidor Seals and Rubber Technology, as experts in the design and manufacture of sealing gaskets, we check beyond the paper, the efficiency of our range of sealing gaskets for pneumatics.

For this purpose, we run tests with thousands of cycle times and observe the condition of the seals after the tests are completed. The “before” vs. “after” comparison is essential to conclude the tests.

And even we take a new step forward and, by mutual agreement with the CWe are able to offer a product of proven quality in terms of both materials and performance.
