Bellows
Tailor-made solutions
What are elastomer profiles?
The bellows are components designed to protect moving machinery parts against dust, splashes, humidity and other environmental contaminants. They are particularly suitable for systems with cyclic axial movements such as stems and spindles, mainly.
Its flexible design allows fit the shank, spindle or shaft, protecting it from the environment outside the equipment.
Geometries and configurations available
- Section cylindrical
- Section rectangular
- Section conical
In addition, it is possible to customize the extended and compressed length according to the movement needs of each team.
Materials available
- CR (chloroprene)Excellent resistance to weathering, ozone, water and mineral oils. Range: -40 °C to +100 °C.
- PVC and PVC-FCO: high flexibility and economy for industrial applications.
- VMQ (silicone): suitable for extreme temperatures and food applications.
- Polyester and leather: light and resistant solutions.
- Translucent polyurethanegood abrasion resistance and flexibility.
- Kevlar and NomexTechnical fabrics for demanding environments with high temperature or abrasion.
Operating and installation conditions
The bellows can be operated within a defined range between the minimum compressed length (L min.) and the maximum extended length (L max.). Exceeding these limits can generate critical deformations and reduce its useful life.
- They must not be exposed to overpressures o depressions internal.
- It is important to avoid edge contact or mobile elements.
- The installation must provide for a firm mechanical fastening, especially in cylindrical openings (the use of clamps or fixing grooves is recommended).
- In horizontal installations of great length, it is recommended to use internal reinforcement rings to avoid excessive deflection or buckling.
Custom development of bellows
At Epidor, we manufacture standard and customized bellows, both in versions molded as formed or sewn. Our technical team advises on the selection of the most suitable design depending on the required movements, operating environment and frequency of use.
Molded bellows are obtained by compression or transfer, offering an excellent quality finish, although they require specific tooling for their production.
