O-ring thread or cord is an extruded profile of circular section manufactured under strict tolerance controls, ensuring a high quality product. This material is produced in the most requested O-ring sections (d2), allowing its use in multiple industrial applications.

One of its main advantages is the possibility of manufacturing O-rings of any size without the need for expensive molds. It is sufficient to cut the thread to the desired length and join its ends by different methods, such as, for example, the vulcanization, obtaining a gasket with the necessary dimensions. In the case of not knowing the dimensions, Epidor has complete kits that include O-ring thread of various sizes (usually NBR) and a cyanoacrylate adhesive to join the ends.

The O-Ring is an excellent solution for the static sealing of covers and allows the installation of O-Rings to the required size in each equipment, even up to several meters in diameter.

FAQ's about toric thread

What is the toric thread used for?
O-ring thread is used to manufacture custom seals for static applications. It is ideal for equipment with large diameters or custom designs where standard seals are not feasible.
What is the difference between a standard O-ring and one made from O-ring thread?
Standard O-rings are manufactured by molding and have fixed dimensions. On the other hand, the O-ring thread allows the manufacture of seals of any size by cutting the required length of the extruded profile and joining it with adhesive or hot vulcanization.
Can toric thread be used in dynamic applications?
Not recommended. The O-ring is designed for static applications. In dynamic applications, the bonding point may weaken due to constant movement. For applications with movement, other sealing solutions are available.
Is it possible to manufacture toric thread in specific colors?

Yes, some materials such as NBR (acrylonitrile butadiene rubber), VMQ (silicone) and the EPDM can be manufactured in different colors upon request, especially in applications that require visual identification or must comply with specific regulations.
