Its function is to ensure that the fluid does not leak through the base of the valve plug and that the movement of the plug is uniform and without excessive wear. Let's see examples of valve seats:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Asientos_de_valvulas_en_valvulas_de_bola\"><\/span>Valve seats in ball valves<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The ball valve employs a spherical plug that rotates on its vertical axis. In many applications these seats work in conjunction with PTFE seals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>PTFE with fillers<\/strong>, which improves wear resistance and mechanical stability.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>UHMW-PE<\/strong>, suitable for its high resistance to abrasion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>PEEK and POM<\/strong>, mainly used when higher mechanical strength is required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Asientos_de_valvula_en_valvulas_de_piston\"><\/span>Valve seats in piston valves<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In piston valves, the plug moves longitudinally and comes into direct contact with the seat when the valve opens or closes. Each brings different advantages depending on the design requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Virgin PTFE<\/strong> very high chemical resistance, which facilitates watertightness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>PTFE with fillers<\/strong> improves mechanical strength and reduces creep, which is particularly important when the piston is subjected to repeated axial loads.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The UHMW-PE<\/strong> is useful in cryogenic valves where impacts or abrasive conditions may occur, always within its working temperature range (-200 \u00b0C ... +80 \u00b0C).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>PEEK and POM<\/strong> are suitable when the valve operates at high pressures or requires high dimensional stability, conditions in which these materials better maintain their mechanical integrity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Seleccion_de_materiales_segun_la_aplicacion\"><\/span>Selection of materials according to the application<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The choice of a <a href=\"https:\/\/epidor.com\/en\/technical-area\/materials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">type of sealing material<\/a> or the other will depend on the specific service conditions. The polymers most commonly used in these conditions are PTFE, UHMW-PE and PEEK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PTFE retains its low coefficient of friction even in extreme cold, which promotes reliable sealing despite thermal shrinkage. UHMW-PE provides higher mechanical strength and good toughness at low temperatures, which is useful when the seat must withstand continuous loads. PEEK, on the other hand, maintains its dimensional stability and rigidity under demanding conditions, allowing it to work at higher pressures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Asientos_de_valvula_para_aplicaciones_no_criogenicas\"><\/span>Valve seats for non-cryogenic applications<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In non-cryogenic conditions, <strong>temperature and pressure are the most important factors influencing material selection<\/strong>. For applications up to approx. 80 \u00b0C, the UHMW-PE is suitable because of its high <strong>abrasion resistance<\/strong> and its <strong>good chemical inertness<\/strong>. In this area, materials such as <strong>Virgin PTFE<\/strong>, the <strong>PTFE with fillers<\/strong> and the <strong>UHMW-PE<\/strong> <strong>food grade<\/strong> are common, as they offer a <strong>high chemical inertness<\/strong>, <strong>thermal stability<\/strong> and absence of migration of formulation components into the food product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the <strong>pressure conditions are high<\/strong> or is a <strong>additional mechanical strength<\/strong>, variants of <strong>PEEK<\/strong> specifically formulated to comply with food industry regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In conclusion, the correct selection of the seat material is decisive to ensure the tightness, durability and performance of the valve. Properly evaluating each application and selecting the most suitable material optimizes operation and reduces maintenance costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In combination with <strong>sealing gaskets, PTFE gaskets, NBR gaskets, FKM gaskets, etc.<\/strong> o <strong>Viton gaskets<\/strong>, the <strong>valve seats<\/strong> play an essential role in the reliability of any industrial system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you want to know the most suitable seat material for your application?
