The materials for this gasket can be:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>S<\/strong><b>ilicone (VMQ)<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rubber <\/span><b>nitrile (NBR)<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Fluoroelastomer (FPM)<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Viton<\/b><b>\u00ae<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Graphite<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Graphite with expanded metal insert<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Restructured PTFE <\/span><b>Gylon<\/b><b>\u00ae<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In spindle valves, the engineered sealing solution along the valve spindle or valve stem is typically braided packing or formed graphite rings. And if the valve is manually operated, O-rings are used to seal the stem end to the handwheel. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Soluciones_de_estanqueidad_en_valvulas_de_clapeta_de_mariposa_y_de_compuerta\"><\/span><strong>Sealing solutions for flapper, butterfly and gate valves <\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At <\/span><b>flap valves<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (or anti-return), <\/span><b>butterfly <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(or lentil) and in<\/span><b> gate valves<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (The sealing of the fluid retaining element is also a problem. The sealing is carried out with an extruded profile that is mounted on the damper guide and on the perimeter of the lentil. The profiles for the lentils are usually T-shaped, while the profiles for the dampers are D-shaped. <\/span><b>EPDM<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and when a higher chemical resistance is required, a <\/span><b>fluoroelastomer (FPM)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> o <\/span><b>Viton<\/b><b>\u00ae<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another engineered sealing solution for valves are the <\/span><b>PTFE energized gaskets<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with bronze or graphite filler. PTFE is a thermoplastic with no recovery, i.e. it has no memory. Hence the need to \u201cenergize\u201d it with a spring or a spring, whose tension opposes the deformation exerted by the housing walls on the PTFE. The material <\/span><b>PEEK<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also has a high chemical inertness and, in addition, offers higher mechanical strength. In a service of high mechanical stress, an energized gasket made of <\/span><b>PEEK<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> offers better performance than the same PTFE gasket, as long as chemical attack does not occur. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another application of PTFE materials and <\/span><b>PEEK<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the machining of ball seats to replace metal seats in situations where corrosion is a risk factor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4210 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/epidor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/27-Algunas-Soluciones-de-estanqueidad-en-valvulas-20-12-17-Foto-INTERIOR-02.jpg\" alt=\"27- Some valve sealing solutions - 20-12-17 - Photo INTERIOR 02\" width=\"600\" height=\"348\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In cryogenic valves, polyethylene (<\/span><b>UHMW-PE<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), due to its excellent behavior at low temperatures and high resistance to abrasion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In future articles we will describe in more detail the engineering solutions for valve sealing.
