{"id":2893,"date":"2018-07-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-07-11T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/epidor.com\/juntas-estanqueidad-acoples-rapidos\/"},"modified":"2026-01-09T13:06:51","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T12:06:51","slug":"sealing-gaskets-quick-couplings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/epidor.com\/en\/blog\/juntas-estanqueidad-acoples-rapidos\/","title":{"rendered":"Sealing gaskets for quick couplings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the distribution of process fluids, whether in intermediate or finished products, seals such as camlock seals for quick couplings are indispensable. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pipelines for transferring these fluids to transport tanks are connected to the tanks through \u201cquick couplings\u201d that allow the hoses to be connected and disconnected manually and efficiently. The \u201cquick\u201d couplings have a sealing gasket that prevents liquid spills during the loading and unloading of the tanks.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sealing gasket solutions:<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At Epidor SRT we offer you the sealing solution that best suits your needs. Below, we present the different options: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1. If the fluid is not problematic, the following are usually used<\/span><b> rectangular or square section elastomer gaskets (EPDM or NBR) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the quick coupling. This solution presents three problems: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clear wear because the elastomer seal is not protected.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It tends to get pinched with the consequent deterioration. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can suffer a punctual chemical attack in the cleaning drains of the cisterns. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8863 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/epidor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/2-juntas-de-estanqueidad-camlock.jpg\" width=\"739\" height=\"429\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2. To protect the elastomer gasket, flexible PTFE covers are integrated to prevent fluid contact with the elastomer. These are the \u201csandwich\u201d type seals. However, with use, PTFE coatings tend to deform and can be easily pinched.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8864 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/epidor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/3-juntas-estauqeidad-para-acoples.jpg\" width=\"739\" height=\"429\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3. <b>PTFE gasket<\/b> The \u201cbellows\u201d type with folds and higher resistance to pinching than the \u201csandwich\u201d type gasket. Almost universal chemical resistance. One problem that can be serious is that product can accumulate between the folds of the gasket, in addition to the poor mechanical properties of the material.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12042 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/epidor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/44-Juntas-para-acoples-rapidos-2018-07-11-INTERIOR-2.1.png\" width=\"739\" height=\"431\" \/><\/p>\n<p>4. <b>Encapsulated elastomer gasket of FEP or PFA <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and square or rectangular cross-section, which will solve the problem of chemical attack while significantly extending the life of the gasket.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8865 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/epidor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/4-juntas-de-estanqueidad-de-calidad.jpg\" width=\"739\" height=\"429\" \/><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Although it is already a good solution in terms of \u201cservice life\/price\u201d, camlock joints tend to crack due to the angle of their corners (even if they are rounded).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5. The <\/span><b>Bio-Lock gasket<\/b><b>\u00ae<\/b><b> of Garlock<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a solution manufactured entirely in <\/span><b>Gylon<\/b><b>\u00ae<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which does not show the weakness of an encapsulated joint. However, since the material is thermoplastic and lacks the elasticity of an elastomer, connection\/disconnection of the coupling is initially more costly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8866 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/epidor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/5-expertos-en-juntas-de-estanqueidad.jpg\" width=\"739\" height=\"429\" \/><\/p>\n<p>6. <b>Encapsulated PTFE toroidal section gasket with FPM core<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which has a fin on its outer diameter.
