This ring is known as an anti-extrusion ring.<\/p>\n<p>The main function of this <strong>sealing solution<\/strong> is to avoid extrusion of the gasket, caused by the high pressure it has to withstand. Extrusion can occur at these two points:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Extrusion groove on shank:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17734\" src=\"https:\/\/epidor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Grafico-anillo-anti-extrusion-1.png\" alt=\"Illustrative graphic of anti-extrusion ring\" width=\"530\" height=\"213\" \/><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Extrusion groove on piston:<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17731\" src=\"https:\/\/epidor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Grafico-anillo-anti-extrusion-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"469\" height=\"285\" \/><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The <strong>anti-extrusion ring<\/strong> can be found in both static and dynamic assemblies, in O-rings and\/or collars.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Nuestro_anillo_anti-extrusion_supera_sin_dificultades_los_ensayos_en_la_UPC\"><\/span>Our anti-extrusion ring passes UPC tests without difficulty<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Supported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/epidor-srt.com\/blog\/renovamos-nuestro-convenio-con-la-universitat-politecnica-de-catalunya\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">test bench that we have at the UPC facilities.<\/a> of Terrassa we have subjected our anti-extrusion rings to a series of tests to guarantee that they fulfill their function to 100%.<\/p>\n<p>Below we share a diagram summarizing the conditions of this test that seeks to confirm the sealing performance of the anti-extrusion ring:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #666666; font-size: 15.6px;\">Two equal profiles were assembled, one without an anti-extrusion ring and one with a ring. To further exemplify the results, the two profiles were manufactured in soft material and the ring was machined in POM. Afterwards, a test of 50,000 cycles at 200 Bar was launched.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #666666; font-size: 15.6px;\">3. Once the test was completed, the system was disassembled and it was observed that, in the housings where the parts without anti-extrusion ring were installed, gasket remains appeared, as can be seen in the image.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17745\" src=\"https:\/\/epidor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Alojamiento-con-restos-de-junta.jpg\" alt=\"Housing with gasket residues\" width=\"620\" height=\"465\" \/><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A visual comparison of the images of the two gaskets below shows the extrusion suffered in the gasket without the anti-extrusion ring:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17751\" src=\"https:\/\/epidor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Junta-con-anillo-anti-extrusion-1.jpg\" alt=\"Gasket with anti-extrusion ring\" width=\"595\" height=\"311\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17754\" src=\"https:\/\/epidor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Junta-sin-anillo-anti-extrusion.jpg\" alt=\"Gasket without anti-extrusion ring\" width=\"595\" height=\"311\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In short, the seals designed and manufactured by our team have proven to withstand the tightness tests in the series of tests to which they have been subjected on the UPC test bench.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Los_efectos_de_la_extrusion_pueden_ser_devastadores_para_los_equipos\"><\/span>The effects of extrusion can be devastating to the equipment.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In all our technical data sheets we indicate the maximum permissible extrusion grooves depending on the application pressure and shaft\/piston diameter for the most common materials.
